Called early

Pastor Kerney Thomas was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, and raised in Houston, Texas. In 1975, at the age of 19, he received Christ, a defining moment that set the course for a lifetime of service, miracles, and transformation.

Before entering full-time ministry he built a successful career in sales, breaking barriers as the first Black mobile home sales manager in the state of Texas. In 1981 he answered the call to full-time evangelistic ministry, traveling across the United States preaching, prophesying, and leading powerful revivals.

A national and global ministry

In 1983 he founded Abundant Life Church in Opelousas, Louisiana, where he pastored until 1989 before returning to full-time evangelistic work. His platform expanded through television broadcasts on BET, The Word Network, and numerous local television and radio stations, carrying a message of faith, healing, and deliverance.

From 2001 to 2010 he hosted one of the longest-running television broadcasts on BET, ministering to millions across the nation. He has traveled to 48 countries across six continents, spreading the Gospel through preaching, prayer, and prophecy.

Life Church

In 2013 he returned to lead the church he founded, renaming it Opelousas Life Church. The church purchased a 103-acre golf course property with more than 28,000 square feet under roof, a tennis court, swimming pool, and driving range, and its summer outreach has provided free programs for hundreds of children.

Life Church is now located in Carencro, Louisiana, where its mission has been revitalized with a focus on prayer, prophecy, and community empowerment. Pastor Kerney’s vision is 5,000 strong members, a debt-free ministry, and a commitment to mentoring leaders, lifting families, and transforming lives.

A life of prayer

Pastor Kerney leads hundreds in one-hour prayer services every Monday through Friday, and teaches that something supernatural happens in the life of the believer who prays one hour per day. He is known for leading intensive 40-day fasts, fasting 18 hours a day for the Body of Christ, and is the visionary behind the 121 Days of Miracles.

Family

On March 27, 1976, he married the love of his life, Lady Debra Lynn Thomas. Together they have two children, Kerney Thomas III and Krystle, and are proud grandparents. Lady Debra is a breast cancer survivor and a pillar of strength in both the family and the ministry.
